For they have brought its depths into the light of day: and in the depths there is always much that is unpleasant to see.Friedrich NietzscheThe object of training a horse is to keep it fit and healthy.Animal WelfareWhy don’t many people achieve this? The way we go with our horses should be harmonious and not difficult. At least that is what most riders and owners would like. Yet still we meet up with many horse-human related problems. In attempt to solve these problems, we use different ways of training, use aggressive bits, or we give the horse to be “broken-in”, we try to change the horse’s behaviour to meet the owners needs or ability. Magazines and internet are full of advertisements of how to solve the problems of what are called “difficult-horses”. To my way of thinking, there is no such thing as a “difficult-horse” as such. Each and every horse has its own character and there is such a thing that the “horse-owner-relationship” just doesn’t fit.Horses react by instinct, they are highly social and honest creatures which are very sensitive to the behaviour and feelings of their owners or carers. Most people are unaware of this. Many horses take over the moods and feelings of the owner, e.g. fear, over-sensitve, nervousness or impatience. A horse will show you how it feels, not like us humans who try to hide negative feelings and behaviour. Instead of trying to change our ways, we try to change the horses` behaviour.I come across with disharmony between horses and owners nearly every day, I would say that about two thirds of the cases are down to the character, attitude and charisma of the owners. To make it short – we would achieve much better results if we changed our ways and be more concious of our actions. This is exactly what I look at.I have come to stage in my life where I feel as though I have to reorganise my ways as a trainer. I would like to involve you in my work more. To show you exactly what I mean, show you how to be more self-reliant, how to have more pleasure and how to act on you own initiative with your horse. Working with horses is so valuable, because horses can’t lie and are evidence of what we are feeling.For this reason I would like to give everyone who is interested, the possibility to deepen their knowlege and skills when dealing with horses. All participants will have the chance to ask as many questions as they like – of course questions of concerns about their own horse.
